Project Guidelines/Creative Brief

Overview

2 Options to Choose From:

  • Animated Digital Children’s Story. Inspire children using a selection from an award-winning children’s book. Your project should inspire children to overcome modern obstacles kids relate to, and come out better.
  • INCREDIBLES 3 adventure movie trailer. Create an animated movie trailer for a sequel to INCREDIBLES featuring the new Superhero character you developed. Entertaining and informational with release date, new character, and new character’s superpower.

Technical Specifications

  • 11 seconds long, 30 fps
  • 2D animations created in Animate CC and edited in Final Cut Pro X with sound, music, and voice talent
  • Incorporate at least two of the following shots/angles:
    • Wide/Establishing Shot
    • Close-Up Shot
    • Pan, use for emphasis, but sparingly
    • Zoom, use for emphasis, but sparingly
    • Extreme Close-Up Shot
    • Closing Shot
  • Develop a good naming scheme applied to assets/layers/scenes (Use Grab or CMD+SHFT+4 to demonstrate.)
  • Character Profile
  • Concept Art
  • Story Structure Plan
  • Storyboard
  • Animatic
  • Appropriate aspect ratio for 16:9 Full HD quality
  • Include credits
  • Metadata changed to show that you are the creator

Steps

  1. Decide whether to do the children’s story scene or the Incredibles sequel movie trailer. The children’s books you can use are in our classroom: The Day the Crayons Quit, When a Dragon Moves In, Giraffes Can’t Dance. Make sure your work is audience appropriate.
  2. Decide whether you will work individually or with a team. If you choose to work in a team, each person must develop their own scene, and each person is responsible for editing their own video version of the combined scenes.
  3. Complete a Character Profile and put in Behance project. (1 hr)
  4. Research and collect in Pinterest inspirations for the character design and props that will be used in the Animation. (1 hr)
  5. Complete sketches/concept art for character poses and facial expressions and put in Behance project. Post in Chat for peer feedback. (3 hr)
  6. Complete Emotioneering planning sheet and put in Behance project. (2 hr)
  7. Complete story structure plan and put in Behance project. (2 hr)
  8. Write script. (3 hr)
  9. Create Storyboard. Put script and storyboard on Behance. Submit script and storyboard to client (instructor) for approval. Make the suggested changes. (6 hr)
  10. Create Animatic and put on Behance. Provide a link in the Chat for peer feedback. You can research animatics at the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storyboard and  http://www.adeliestudios.com/explainer-video-storyboards-heck-animatic/ (6 hr)
  11. Choose copyright-free music, sounds. Record audio. (3 hr)
  12. Create animation in Animate CC. Make sure the Principles of Animation are evident in your work. (20 hr)
  13. Edit in Final Cut Pro X. Save in web and video formats. (6 hr)
  14. Complete a Self Evaluation using the Rubric. (1 hr)
  15. Publish to Behance. Write text to explain design decisions and process. (0.5 hr)
  16. Schedule a meeting with your client for payment. 🙂
  17. Submit work for a Quack Award.
