24 Hours Animation Contest for Students

October…Now in our 18th year, the 24 HOURS Animation Contest for Students challenges its participants to create a 30 second film based on a given theme in a designated 24 hour period. Teams work from their home school and submit a Youtube link of their films before the deadline, which are judged by industry artists. We award 5 teams of 5 excellent prizes from our industry sponsors. Past sponsors have included; ToonBoom, Animation Magazine, TAAFI, CSU Summer Arts, ASIFA-Hollywood, TVPaint, CTN, Wacom, DigiCel, CRC Press, Stuart NG Books, Your Animated Journey, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney, DreamWorks, Blue Sky, Laika, Film Roman, Pixar, Sony Pictures Animation and more! This has been such a successful event with the student’s attendance rapidly growing each year. With over 290 teams (1450 students) from more than 65 schools in 14 countries (Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand, USA and the UK)! This contest will teach our students much about working together, meeting deadlines and making creative decisions under pressure. Although it is quite a bit to do in such a short time, every year we always have completed, 30-second colored films AND they all have a lot of fun and return for more each year – so it’s a proven model they really enjoy.   Follow the contest on FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/24hourscontest/   See past year’s winning films: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzBTwreIsKI2dSaPCPwPbEvAqVnH9MHGv   Registration link for the 2020 contest:  http://www.123formbuilder.com/form-5037003/form

BPA/Competitions

NOTE: In order to compete, you must be eligible with a Professionalism grade of 90% or higher, in good standing, and/or not on probation, and be able to represent our school in an outstanding, professional manner.

Business Professionals of America is our student organization dedicated to helping you evolve as a leader, a competitor, and as a person who recognizes the value of community service. Our school pays your dues and EVERYONE is a member of this organization automatically.

Business Professionals of America allows you to become a better leader through community service as well as competitive events. When it’s time for competition, your skills should help you Stand Out from the others! Nationals will be held in Chicago, Illinois, and promises to be a great experience for all who are eligible to compete and earn the privilege to attend.

Check out what this fine organization has to offer at the national site, http://www.bpa.org

Contest Information will soon be posted to the state and national web sites. Below are examples of contests you may want to consider.

2D Animation & Character Design Illustration Students

  • Virtual Multimedia (Individual or Team—virtual event)
  • Presentation Management Team or Individual
  • Global Marketing Team
  • Information Technology Concepts (Open Event)

3D Animation & Motion Graphics Students

  • Computer Modeling
  • Computer Animation Team
  • Information Technology Concepts (Open Event)

We are extremely fortunate that our school will pay travel, lodging, registration, and provide a small food stipend for students who place first at state competition and are eligible to advance to nationals. In some instances, we have students who place 2nd and also qualify to advance to nationals and our goal is to help them with their expenses, should they decide to attend.

In order to support our efforts of community service goals and also to support those students who place second are eligible to advance to nationals, we will do fundraisers—so be prepared to show your support. We typically average around 15 – 25 students who place second and need sponsorships to advance, and that’s a lot of cash!

The dates for next year’s conference are in April, so we better get started raising those funds!

Whoa! Before the national competitions, we have local competitions, and then state competitions in March, located in Tulsa, with a deadline for all entries much earlier, usually at the end of January.

Information about our State BPA organization can be found at: http://okbpa.org/

Although we have great fun at contests and they are very rewarding, there’s much more to BPA to help you become a professional leader, including opportunities that support Leadership ! Professional Growth ! Service ! Patriotism—check out all the benefits of BPA at: http://bpa.org/

At this site, you can also check out the requirements for earning a Torch Award and you may even want to serve as the classroom representative on our local BPA Executive Council. Take a moment to complete the BPA Student Conduct delegate form located on our class site, if you have not done so already. Last year our local BPA chapter conducted a Harvest food drive, adopted several Francis Tuttle families during Christmas, and volunteered to work at Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity. Employers love to see that prospective candidates are involved in many of the types of experiences that BPA provides.
