Art Principles Analysis

How did they use the art principles to get the effect they wanted on their audience?

Refer to the Art Principles to understand what these questions mean. 🙂

Answer all of these in a document and then paste your answers into the Weekly Chat… Each person in the group should choose 1 of these to become the expert on so you can present one to us.

  1. What effect do you think they were going for? What did they want viewers to feel?

  2. Is the composition balanced symmetrically or asymmetrically? Describe how they balanced out the composition.

  3. How did they use the principle of contrast? Where is it and what did they contrast? (light/dark, color, texture & detail vs. smooth, etc.)

  4. What is the focal point? How did they emphasize it? How did they subordinate other things?

  5. Did they use pattern? Detail? Where and what effect does it have?

  6. Your brain wants to create a unified, understandable image that makes sense. How did they achieve unity in the image? Think about repetition, continuation, subordination, etc.

  7. Movement…How does the eye travel through the image?

  8. Can you detect any rhythm in the image? How did they achieve it?
