Lesson 01.01.01 (3 hr)

You need to learn Illustrator so that:

  • you can produce a project using it
  • you can take an Illustrator certification test from Adobe
  • you can show me that you learned some key Illustrator skills/competencies

Instructions

You’ll be watching videos in PluralSight and then doing lessons from the Illustrator Classroom In a Book (CIB). The lessons from one help you to do the work in the other. I find that it’s easier to understand what’s in the Illustrator textbook after having followed along with the videos in PluralSight.

Sometimes, you’ll take a note or two over each video. Other times, you’ll use Command Shift 4 to take a screenshot of your work to show that you were following along with the video instructor. Pay attention to what you’re being asked to do.

Anytime you create an Illustrator file or work on an exercise file that’s been provided to you, be sure to save it in your Google Drive so you can show me later.

How to Take Notes Over the PluralSight Videos

Arrange your browser window and a Word document window so that you can jot down notes while watching the videos.

Don’t take extensive or wordy notes. Just jot down something worthy that will show that you are paying attention.

You should label the Section headings of the video course in your Word file, but you don’t need to go to the trouble of labelling every video by its title. Here’s an example of how you should set up your notes with clearly labelled headings for each section.

It doesn’t have to look EXACTLY like this ^^, but it should be clear what notes go with what Section of the video course. 🙂

Your Assignment

Get your files in your Google Drive organized! Put everything that you completed for the Orientation lessons into an Orientation folder on your Google Drive.

Then, start up a “Course 01” folder. Inside that, start up a “Unit 01” folder. You’re working on Unit 01 now, so everything you need to save for this Unit should go inside that folder.

Log in to your PluralSight account and go to the Illustrator Fundamentals Course.

Download the exercise files provided on the Exercise Files tab of the video course (see screenshot below) and save a copy of them in your Google Drive so that you can follow along with the video instructor. Anytime you’re asked to follow along with the video instructor, you’ll need to SAVE any files you create or work on so that you can show me that you DID the work.

Watch Sections 1 – 3:

  • What is Adobe Illustrator
  • Understanding Illustrator CC
  • Working in Illustrator

Take 2 notes over each video in these sections. Each note should explain when, why, or how you’d use the feature they’re explaining in the video. (3 hr)

Submit Your Work

In the Basecamp To-Do Item for this lesson, paste in the notes that you took over the videos. Please don’t upload a file, just paste them in so I can see them without downloading a file. On to more Illustrator geeking out! >>> Go back to your Basecamp to see your next To-Do Item!
